Motocross Graphics Finishes Explained: Gloss, Matte, Glitter, Chrome & Holographic
Share
The design gets most of the attention when choosing motocross graphics, but the finish can change how the entire kit looks on the bike. The same colourway can feel clean and factory-inspired in one finish or much more eye-catching in another.
Orange Juice Customs offers several finish options across our custom motocross graphics kits. Here is what each style brings to the finished bike.
Gloss motocross graphics
Gloss is the classic choice for riders who want strong colour and a clean reflective surface. It suits everything from factory-inspired race graphics to bright custom designs and works well when you want the colours and contrast of the artwork to remain the main focus.
Gloss is also an easy finish to coordinate with glossy plastics and other polished details on the bike.
Matte motocross graphics
Matte gives a more understated, modern appearance with less surface reflection. Dark colours, monochrome layouts and technical designs can look particularly strong in matte because the finish gives the graphics a different character from the typical glossy race-bike look.
It is a good option if you want the bike to feel more subtle without reducing the impact of the actual graphic design.
Textured motocross graphics
A textured finish adds a visible and tactile surface effect to the kit. Rather than relying only on colour and printed artwork, the finish itself becomes part of the overall look.
This can suit aggressive motocross designs, darker builds and bikes where you want the graphics to feel visually different from a standard smooth finish.
Multi glitter graphics
Multi glitter introduces reflective detail that changes as the bike catches the light. It works particularly well when you want a custom build to stand out at events, in photographs or under changing light.
Because the finish already adds visual interest, it can be paired with a relatively controlled graphic layout and still create a strong result.
Silver glitter graphics
Silver glitter gives a cooler metallic-style sparkle and works well alongside black, white, grey, blue and many bright accent colours. It can be used to make a race-inspired design feel more premium without completely changing the colour palette.
Gold glitter graphics
Gold glitter brings a warmer reflective appearance and can work well with black, white, cream, red and other warm accents. It is especially effective when the rest of the bike already includes gold-coloured components and you want the graphics to tie into the overall build.
Chrome accents
Chrome is best used deliberately. On selected graphic elements it can create a mirror-like metallic highlight that makes logos, numbers, lines or focal areas stand out strongly against printed colours.
Rather than making every part reflective, using chrome on selected elements helps create contrast between the standard printed artwork and the standout areas.
Holographic accents
Holographic details change appearance as the viewing angle and light change. They are ideal when you want selected parts of a custom kit to have a more unusual, high-impact effect.
As with chrome, holographic accents can be particularly effective on chosen elements of the artwork where the changing reflection becomes part of the design.
Which motocross graphics finish should you choose?
There is no single best finish; it depends on the bike and the look you want. A few simple starting points can help:
- Clean race-bike look: gloss is a strong all-round choice.
- Understated or modern: consider matte.
- More tactile and aggressive: consider textured.
- Extra sparkle: multi, silver or gold glitter can transform the appearance.
- High-impact selected details: chrome or holographic accents can create focal points.
Match the finish to the full bike
Look at your plastics, frame, wheels, hubs, suspension, seat and any anodised details before deciding. A finish usually looks best when it feels intentional within the full colour scheme.
If you are personalising one of our preset kits, choose the design first and then consider which finish complements it. If you are commissioning a Full Custom 1/1 Motocross Graphics Kit, the desired finish can be included in the design brief from the start so the overall concept is considered together.
