How to Fit Motocross Graphics: Step-by-Step MX Graphics Guide

Taking time with preparation and alignment makes a huge difference when fitting motocross graphics. The goal is to apply each panel cleanly, avoid trapping dirt underneath and make sure the edges are properly pressed down around the shape of the plastics.

This guide applies to the type of premium motocross graphics found in our MX graphics collection.

1. Check the kit against the bike

Before removing any backing paper, identify every piece and compare it with the plastics on the bike. Confirm the graphics match the correct make, model, year and plastic shape. If the bike has aftermarket plastics, check the panel shapes carefully before starting.

2. Remove dirt and contamination

Wash the plastics first so there is no mud, dust or loose dirt on the surface. Once dry, thoroughly degrease the areas that will receive graphics using a suitable plastic-safe cleaner and a clean lint-free cloth. Pay particular attention to edges, recesses and areas that may have picked up chain spray, polish or silicone-based products.

3. Work in a suitable environment

A clean, dry workspace is much easier to work in than a cold or dusty garage. The plastics and graphics should not be extremely cold. A moderate indoor temperature makes the material easier to position and conform.

4. Dry-position each graphic

Hold the panel in place before exposing the adhesive and identify the main alignment points. Look for bolt holes, plastic edges, vents and body lines. This gives you a reference before the graphic starts to stick.

5. Start from a controlled area

Peel back only enough backing paper to begin the application. Anchor the graphic at a reliable alignment point, then work gradually across the panel rather than exposing the entire adhesive surface at once.

6. Work from the centre outward

Press the graphic down progressively, pushing air toward the outer edges. Keep checking alignment as you go. If a section is starting to pull away from where it should sit, correct it before pressing the whole panel firmly into place.

7. Use gentle heat around curves

Where the plastic has a curve, recess or tighter contour, gentle heat can help the material conform. Do not overheat one area. Warm it gradually while working the graphic into the shape and pressing it down firmly.

8. Pay attention to the edges

Once the panel is fitted, go back around every edge, corner and recessed section. Apply firm pressure and check that there are no lifted areas. Edges are particularly important because dirt and pressure washing can work underneath a poorly seated graphic.

9. Let the graphics settle

After fitting, leave the bike in a clean, dry environment and avoid immediately attacking the graphic edges with aggressive washing. Recheck the edges after installation and press down any areas that need extra attention.

Caring for fitted motocross graphics

For routine cleaning, use mild soapy water and a soft cloth or sponge. Avoid harsh solvents or aggressive chemicals, and do not hold a pressure washer directly against the edges of the graphics.
